Gemstone, Tree of Life Lariat, and more!

Hello everyone,
I finally managed to go and visit this gemstone place. It was a huge warehouse!!! They had these beautiful gemstones that I went all Goo Goo Gaa Gaa over! I spent so much money and now I can't wait to start working on my new projects.
My hubby is the sweetest ever. He is always organizing my beads and my jewelry for me. I have a wonderful working area now! He does not let me touch anything until he's done tagging and labeling everything.
Gemstones need to put nicely in seperate bags so that they don't get scratched up. So, now I bought tons of those little baggies to put each stone individually in.
I also have pictures from my jewelry shop. I listed this beautiful Tree of Life Lariat the other day. Here is a picture!

I will be posting more pictures of my new jewelry so keep visiting!

FEATURED SELLER THIS MAY IS ANNA WHITE, AKA AIRPORTLOVESTORY

Starting this month, May 2009, I have decided picking a really talented and hardworking ETSYian who deserves some credit for their work, as a Featured Seller on my BLOG.

This month's Featured Seller is Anna White, also known to some as airportlovestory. You can visit Anna's lovely shop at http://www.airportlovestory.etsy.com/ where she has everything, from jewelry to supplies, and even gifts. What made me want to interview her were her 'Red Reds Earrings' which I adore and now own! Here is a picture:

When I had a little chit chat with Anna here is what she had to say.

Tell us a bit about yourself - name, location, affiliations, personal stuff.

Hi! My name is Anna, and I live in Omaha, NE with my boyfriend Jake in an inspiring old house partitioned into apartments. I spend most of my free time on Etsy.com, working on improving and maintain my online handmade shop, http://airportlovestory.etsy.com/. I work for a wonderful business called Teddy Bear Connnection, a local stuff-your-own-animal store, with cars and race track, to boot! I hope to be the manager come Christmas, and I think I can make it happen, the owners really like me - knock on wood! ;)
As for personal stuff, well, I’m eccentric, neurotic, and generally weird. I have lots of fun mood swings, hate doing the dishes (I simply refuse), and love shopping. I don’t even have to buy anything, I just have to be in a store for an hour or two or 14, and see what’s on sale and look at eeeeeverything! I end up doing this alone, of course, haha, but it’s good to see all the fashions and trends out there, and incorporate it into my creations.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?

Honestly, creating things is EVERYTHING I do! I write songs and play guitar/sing around town, and the most rewarding part of that is when the music and lyrics come together with a crowd full of smiling, bobbing heads. I also sometimes cook dishes that I make up in my head and never get the recipe for (it usually doesn’t turn out so great or edible!) I make jewelry, of course, and bead mixes. Sometimes, I make bad decisions, or start a new project I can’t seem to finish. All that aside, I always create love. And spread it all over like the world’s a big piece of toast! (I also create jokes in my head that come out as non-jokes!)
OH- And I opened up a new Etsy shop,
http://beadsinflight.etsy.com/ – where I sell supplies, including beads and charms for my fellow jewelry makers. It helps sustain my PayPal balance and since supplies sell quicker than jewelry, it’s keeping me busy on slow days! J

What handmade possession do you most cherish?

I made a necklace awhile ago, when I first opened my Etsy shop in April ’08… that has a foam bird, antique key, a rhinestone charm on it, that represents my boyfriend and I’s relationship. I used the tiny foam bird to cheer him up when he was the saddest I’ve ever seen him (poked him in the nose with the tiny beak, screaming “Cheep! Cheep! Cheep cheep!”) … the rhinestone is the very first thing I left/lost at his house when it fell off a necklace and showed up a week later, making him smile and call me right away… and the key is from eBay, but obviously represents the key to his heart - I KNOW! Nauseating, right? Plus, I just got a tiny aluminum charm with a J stamped into it, for Jake, my lovie. J

How do you promote your work?

I network with other Etsyians in chat rooms (especially Featured Seller), I talk to strangers on the street about my work, I go shopping with friends who see jewelry they like and I smile coyly and say, “I can make that for $5 less, and in a color you’d like better.” And I work with other Etsyians, giving away free jewelry in turn for distributing my business cards with their orders. I’ve been thinking about some other ways to promote, including bumper stickers, referral program, and frequent buyer cards, but I’m still working out the kinks in those.

In ten years I'd like to be…

My long-term career goal is to own and run a business along a main shopping/dining strip in a nice city (think the San Antonio Riverwalk, downtown Seattle, Kansas City Court, NYC’s 5th Ave, etc.). My building and business with be two suites and two-fold. One suite will be a handmade boutique, more or less taking other artist’s talents and putting them into an offline Etsy-type shop. The other suite will have fine art and a stage for local artists and small name fame to perform… pretty cool idea, huh? I also can’t wait to be the proud mama of a beautiful baby, when that time comes. I want to travel and learn and grow and experience things in not-so-typical ways.

Thank you for reading more about me! I invite you to visit my shops, http://airportlovestory.etsy.com/ & http://beadsinflight.etsy.com/, and my music, at http://myspace.com/airportlovestory. Hope to see you soon!

Hello folks,

What is everyone upto today? I went to a party this past weekend and I just thought I'd post a picture of Fiza here in her yellow dress. Check it it out:

Please feel free to comment. I am going to bed. See you all soon.
Buh-Bye and nite nite!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Hey everyone,
It has been a really long time since I came in here. What can I say. I got so busy with managing two shops. The new one, the bead shop has been keeping me extra busy! I get a couple of orders in that shop in a day. Promoting and selling is not the only hard part, packing them up and going to the post office every single day is pretty tough too! Sometimes I think I should skip a day between going to post office. I just have so much to do sometimes.
My bead shop has 88 sales now within 2 weeks and that makes me so proud. I mean I did have to do alot of hard work and spend a lot of time on it but in the end it was all worth it!
I need to go to sleep. I am so dizzy from sitting in front of the laptop all day.
Nite nite all and sweet dreams,
Lots of Love,
Momina

My new Bead Shop

I had a lot of extra beads lying around which I never used. So, I thought why not share those beads with everyone else. I just opened a new bead shop on etsy with really cool beads. The link is http://www.fizadesignsbeadshop.etsy.com/

You really must check it out. I have everything here for $0.99 at the moment. Shipping is also only $1.50 and $0.15 for each additional item you purchase. I am very excited about this new shop. I do need lots of visitors and hearts as those are what make my day and encourage me to do more.

Also, I made some new pieces for my jewelry shop. I just didn't have time to list them yet. I have this pair of earrings which go very well with my Luck of the Irish Green Heart Necklace. Here is a picture but its not that great so I will try to take more nice pictures and list it as soon as possible on my etsy.

Check it out. I will be back with more news later this week. Bye Bye!

Shamelessly promoting my own store =(

Hi everyone,
I'm back, after a couple of days. I was just on etsy chat and you had to buy something from someone in order to become the featured seller. I bought something but when I was the featured seller I didn't sell anything. I got all dishearted. I have twitter, a blog here, flickr, and facebook too but its like almost impossible to sell nowadays. I am also on google base now, trying to promote my shop. I love making jewelry and I wish somehow I can make it on etsy. It seems like I get no traffic in my shop. I have a very low number of views everyday, and some days I have no views. It is quiet depressing. But anyways, how are you all doing?
I made a couple of new necklaces that I have to list. I will take their pictures tomorrow, hopefully, and list them within a couple of days. Fiza makes listing everyday on etsy almost impossible for me.
I spent a lot of time in the forums and in the chatrooms today. I hope it helps in the future. I have done a lot of promoting. Now its about time I get some traffic in my store.
Thanks to all my blogs followers. I really appreciate your support, and if I make it big one day I will NOT forget you.
Anyways, it is quiet late which is probably why I am writting all this rubbish so good night people. Sleep tight!!
Love to all,
Momina

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Hey everyone,
How are you all doing? I made a really cool new necklace and I couldn't wait to show it off on my blog. It is called the Three Circles of Faith and is composed of three sterling silver O's hung on a 16" chain. Here check it out on http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22408971
Also, here is the picture, if you don't have time to go to the site.
I will talk to you all later. Bye bye!

Monday, March 16, 2009

Hellow fellows,
How are you all today? I have been very lazy lately and hadn't really added anything on etsy but today finally I listed 2 new necklaces. I have a doctor's appointment in about 40 mins so I need to go get ready so I better be going.
Also, I wanted to mention I have taken part in an art and crafts show here in Long Island, NY. I will list the details later but its in a Hilton on April 19th. I would love to see you all there. This is my first show so just for the moral boost, that is if you live in the area.
Anyways, I'll get going.
Take care everyone ... cya!

Saturday, March 14, 2009

Hey everyone,
I had been really sick the past couple of days and then my daughter Fiza got sick from me so I'm sorry I didn't update much. I did make some new pieces though and I have their pictures which I will put in the end.
Life has been so hectic ever since I came back from VA. We got back Monday night and then Tuesday I was feeling a little iffy all day and then in the evening I had a fever and couldn't get out of bed. Then the next couple of days I was just lying here and there, too lazy to move. On Friday, I went out with my mom and Fiza to do some shopping for Fiza but couldn't really find what I was looking for. Saturdays, as usual my busiest day because my husband is home and I try to spend most of my time with him in our room watching new movies that we get from netflix. Tomorrow, Sunday, we were thinking about heading out to Queens and just hanging out there on 78th st in Jackson Heights.

I also have a lot of new necklace ideas that will eventually be put in actual form. I just need a little time to get my thoughts together, especially because Fiza has been extra hyper lately.

Anyways guys, I'll be leaving now because it is pretty late.

Here are the pictures of my new stuff, as I promised. Check them out:

Goodnight people!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

This is what I made today and I love the way it came out!

Good mornin' everyone,

I am back in NY ... sure feels good to be back home. And my little Fiza wasn't that bad on the way back. I'll post a picture of her here in the end.

My mom just went out of the country and she got me lots of new beads .... I am so excited ... I can't wait to start working on my new projects.

Anyways, hope you all are doing great ... I'll put more pictures up soon! Bye bye for now.

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Hello everyone,

I am on vacation in South Virginia which is about 9 hours drive from my place in New York. This weekend was so nice and warm here! It was 77 degrees today!!! Can't wait for summer in NY. Anyways, I just noticed that I didn't put my website here on the blog so here it is:
www.fizadesigns.etsy.com

Please do visit! It would be great for me to see new people!

I am leaving for NY tomorrow morning and it is going to be a  nightmare because Fiza hates her car seat! But hopefully it would be a little better this time since the weather is nice and we can take her out of the car once in a while.

I forgot to ask how have you all been doing? Hope everyone had a great sunny weekend!

I'll see you all later! I have to go for now so bye bye!

My Greetings to all of you! INTRO

This is my first entry in my blog and I am still trying to figure out how to use this thing.

My formal introduction:

Hello everyone. My name is Momina and I am the designer and the creater of Fiza Designs. I live with a very loving husband who supports me in all my crazy endeavors, and a beautiful 1 year old daughter named Fiza, hence my shops name, Fiza Designs.

Jewelry has always been something that has made me curious and I started making it myself about 2 years ago. I am a self taught artist.

I belong to an artist family. My grandmother makes beautiful fabric and silk paintings and scarves. My mother is an artist also. She did her masters in Fine Arts and makes oil and water color paintings. Both my sisters are Graphic Designers. So, I had to do something to fit in the family I was born into, right?

Anyways, enough said for today, my duties are calling me!

Bye bye for now,
Love,
Momina
